Applied Vision’s KromaKing®
Answers Canmakers’ Need for Reliable Mixed Label Inspection
System
AKRON, OH – September 22, 2006 –
Applied Vision’s KromaKing® MLI
color vision system is specifically designed to detect mixed labels on
beverage can production lines with the reliability that has been lacking
from competitive mixed label detection systems. The system is
self-training and detects mixed labels automatically, running dependably
without operator intervention.
“Mixed label occurrences often occur during label changes,” notes Bud
Patel, vice president of business development for Applied Vision. “The
move to standardize to the 202 neck size and manufacture all cans on the
same line has increased occurrences even more. But until now, there
hasn’t been a detection system that can deliver the low false reject
rates and reliability that can truly save manufacturers time and loss.”
The
KromaKing MLI system detects rogue cans in a specific production run,
initially self-learning the label colors of a set run of cans on-line.
The system then compares those labels to the cans in the production run.
While self-training, the system learns the normal variations of the
production run, as cans may gradually vary in color or brightness during
the course of a long run. It keeps up to date by continuously learning
every good can that passes through its inspection station. This helps
minimize false rejects caused by normal and acceptable process
variation.
Studies have shown that most rogue cans occur after a label change.
KromaKing MLI automatically detects label changes and starts the process
of self-learning the new label. While the system trains itself on the
new label, it also rejects cans leftover from previous runs. This
feature eliminates the risk of a rogue can getting past the system
during a new label training phase. The self-learning feature also allows
the system to run reliably without any operator intervention.
The
KromaKing MLI system’s accuracy and reliability have been tested by two
major can manufacturers. KromaKing MLI was found to have substantially
lower false reject rates than the competition while still detecting all
mixed labels.
Other features of the KromaKing MLI system include:
-
Digital camera technology
-
Easy set-up
-
Reliable automatic operation
-
Solid-state lighting
-
Available with or without LCD touch
screen monitor
-
Choice of
NEMA 12/1IPG61 or NEMA 4/IPG65 configurations
