Applied Vision Using Experience in Digital Gigabit Ethernet Cameras and Dual
Processing To Lower Cost Per Camera in Machine Vision
AKRON, OH – May 25, 2006 – By combining the capabilities of digital Gigabit
Ethernet cameras and dual processing technology, Applied Vision has made machine vision easier and more cost
efficient to implement for its customers in the food and beverage industry.
“Three years ago we recognized how GigE could provide a competitive advantage,” said Amir
Novini, president of Applied Vision. “Since then we’ve installed more than 750 digital Gigabit
Ethernet cameras in the field and are currently looking into how the technology can be further
applied to gain greater efficiencies.”
The company’s GeniusŪ Vision Systems utilize the longer transmission links of Gigabit Ethernet
cameras combined with dual-processing CPU hardware to inspect more production lanes with less
cost per lane. With up to 100-foot cable lengths, Gigabit Ethernet cameras can be mounted farther
from the CPU, thus increasing the number of lines that can be inspected with one CPU. The
number of cameras operating from each Genius CPU is further increased by adding dual
processing capabilities. Dual processors allow as many as four cameras to be run from one CPU
rack, reducing the cost per camera.
The additional processing power also allows Applied Vision to implement more sophisticated
algorithms – the key to detecting finer defects at higher line speeds. Applied Vision also utilizes the
powerful computer hardware to more quickly detect process trends so the cause of re-occurring
defects can be identified and corrected.
The Genius Vision Systems perform 100 percent automatic inspections on high-speed lines in
applications including inside can, converted end, food end, easy-open end, 3-piece can, shell and
crown cap and closure.
Applied Vision Company designs and manufactures application-specific machine vision
inspection systems for packaging, food and beverage containers and color printing. Its systems
are sold worldwide through Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Value Added Resellers
(VARs), full-service distributors and company direct. More information is available at
